From
L.D. lower back pain and a skin ulcer…
I am a seventy year-old woman. I went to the Houston
Acupuncture and Herb Clinic because of lower back pain
and a skin ulcer that I've had for many years. In the
past I had seen acupuncturists for over 20 years. I have
seen lots of acupuncturists who only seemed to give me a
black pill that only helped a little bit.
I previously thought alternative medicine is always
being slow to get result. Acupuncturist Wu, however,
changed my mind. He is far more educated and really
knows how to help people. Chinese medicine actually is
very powerful, and the results are very fast too. It
depends on who you see, how they prepare treatments, and
whether or not they know what is the proper dosage and
experiences, etc.
In their clinics, every single formula comes from their
knowledge. When I was in the patient room, Acupuncturist
Wu discussed all my problems and medical history as he
is formulating some herbs on my chart. He told me that
the specific formula he made for me is a combination of
individual herbs, not like the pills that are pre-made
for all people. Wu explained that pre-made herbal
formulae contain a lot of unnecessary ingredients that
are not necessarily right for me. He obviously has a lot
of training and experience.
For many years from my past experiences, all the
acupuncturists I saw previously gave me are the pre-made
patterned herbs. Since I came to this clinic, I begin to
realize the herb formulas have to make proper
ingredients and percentage that can give tremendous
effects to the body system. I have never seen any
acupuncturist prepare my formula in front of me. He is
the first one.
My skin ulcer has been there for many years, with no
medicine ever helping my skin to heal. It always has
been an ulcer with pus and draining. Since I went to
this clinic and saw Acupuncturist Wu, my ulcer is
getting smaller with a lot less draining.
It is healing up!
I also had stomach problems. I am not able to eat
anything spicy. I went to many doctors but found no
help. After I went to see Acupuncturist Wu, my stomach
now is 85% better. I can sleep well at night now -
something that was not possible before.
Recently my leg had been very weak, with me hardly able
to stand up. After two treatments, I can walk just like
a normal person.
From S.R. having trouble with my back and my
left leg…
In 2000, I started having trouble with my back and my
left leg. The pain was excruciating and rendered me a
near cripple. I saw many doctors and hip specialists,
back and spine specialists as well as a pain doctor. I
was told there was not only nothing to be done, but that
my condition of scoliosis would only get worse and more
painful. The doctors were right about the pain, and I
was soon taking Darvoset, Vicodin, etc. To some extent I
was walking around in a daze, and was depressed as well.
In desperation, I tried Jo-Mei Chiang. At first I
thought the acupuncture was not working, but several
treatments had me changing my mind. I still have some
pain, but it is bearable and I am walking like a normal
person. Hurrah!
From E.H. severe back pain and muscle
spasms…
I came to Acupuncturist Wu with severe back pain and
muscle spasms. A friend referred the clinic. The pain I
was experiencing was horrible, similar to when I
gave
birth to my son. After just 30 minutes of treatment in
the clinic, I felt immediate relief and was at least 60
% better. I am very appreciative of the treatment he
provided for me.
Additionally, I was relieved by his confidence. His
smiles and his positive approach let me know that he
knew what he was doing, so much so, I returned for more
treatments. Knowing I needed extensive treatment; he
even came into his office to help me on a Sunday
morning. By the third day, my pain is now limited to a
very small area. There is a dramatic decrease in pain,
and at least an 80% improvement in the area. I feel so
much better! Thank you very much.
From C.C. severe back pain…
I came to the clinic with severe back pain. The pain was
so severe, I could barely walk in. Before coming to the
acupuncture clinic, I went to my internist and got no
relief. I then went to the chiropractor and still was
limping badly. With one treatment, the pain is virtually
gone and I am walking without a limp. I feel like a new
person and am very grateful to the clinic for the
procedures performed on me. I always feel better
instantly after I have visited the Houston Acupuncture
and Herb, L.P.
I have very bad shoulder and neck pain…
I have very bad shoulder and neck pain. I also have trouble to sleep
at night. When I sit up I feel dizziness and light headache. After
the 30 minutes of acupuncture treatment, I feel immediately better.
Two days later, I am 80% better. I am able to sleep at night. My
shoulder tension is going away.
T. B. My rib, which I may have fractured…
My father is a dentist. He told me to see Dr. Wu at Houston
Acupuncture and Herb Clinic. My first experience here was the first
time I have ever been to an acupuncturist. I was pleasantly
surprised at the result. My rib, which I may have fractured, hurt
about 60% less and my overall well seeing increased as well. That
means that I feel better about me.
From R.R. excruciating right hip and leg pain…
When I first came to see Jannie I was a mess. I had excruciating
right hip and leg pain, which was progressively getting worse. The
pain was so intense I could not sit down, bend over or drive. The
only comfortable position was lying down. My wife had to help me
into the clinic.
Soon after having acupuncture and herb treatments at Houston
Acupuncture and Herb Clinic, I was able to drive again. As I
continue, the pain subsided and I was able to have full range of
motion in my body. The care I have received and continue to receive
at Houston Acupuncture and Herb, LP is exceptional.
Jannie is a GREAT acupuncturist, very caring and knowledgeable. I
have and will continue to refer others. Thank you so much for all
you have done!
B. C. I have started my menstruation at age
14, I have always had cramping.
Since I have started my menstruation at age 14, I have always had
cramping. The cramping has become increasingly worse as I get older,
and vary in the levels of pain – from medium to severe. The one
thing I could rely on in life was that I was going to have cramping
during my period. In the past, my remedy has included Ibuprofen,
heating pad and sometimes bed rest. I came to Dr. Wu for an
ovulation and miscarriage treatment twice a week. As the end of my
first menstrual cycle drew near, I realized that I had not
experienced any of the PMS cramping I always experience. The real
testimony was during my menstrual cycle; I also did not experience
any cramping at all. I did not take one Ibuprofen and did not use
one heating pad. I am a believer in this treatment. Thank you Dr.
Wu!
In an acupuncture clinic setting, pain is quite
a common symptom, but it is sometimes very difficult to evaluate.
Headache is found in and associated with many acute and chronic
diseases. Pain can occur at every part of the body. Pain can also be
caused by many different factors. When a person visits the
acupuncture clinic, the doctor normally will ask the nature of pain,
its onset, and duration, circumstances of its occurrence, location
and radiation, severity, and any other related symptoms.
Various etiological and pathological factors may cause different
natures and characters of pain during the clinical interview. The
following types of pains are frequently seen in the acupuncture
clinic.
Distending pain
The pain results in a bloated feeling. It indicates Qi stagnation.
The up flaming of liver fire or hyperactivity of liver yang can
cause the distending pain at the head and eyes. Distending pain in
the chest and hypochondrium is due to the syndrome of stagnant Qi at
the lungs, liver, stomach and intestines.
Stabbing pain
The pain is sharp like the feeling of a pinprick. It indicates the
stasis of blood, specially appearing at the chest, hypochondrium,
stomach, small abdomen, and junior abdomen.
Migrating pain
The pain is unsteady and migrates to all places. If the pain happens
at the chest, hypochondrium, stomach, small abdomen, and junior
abdomen, it is commonly due to stagnation of liver Qi. If the
migrating pain occurs from the joints to joints, it is called the
migrating arthralgia. It is often seen in the Bi syndrome.
Fixed pain
The pain is fixed and steady at one area. If the fixed pains happen
at the chest, hypochondrium, stomach, small abdomen, and junior
abdomen, it is due to blood stasis. If fixed pain happens at joints
with steadiness, it is called fixed arthralgia.
Cold pain
The pain is accompanied with a cold feeling and can be relieved by
warmth. This cold syndrome frequently occurs at the loin, abdomen,
vertex of the head, and joints of the four limbs, it indicates the
cold syndrome. Syndrome of excessive cold results from the cold
evil, which attacks the Zang –Fu, meridians and collaterals. The
syndrome of ‘deficiency-cold’ results from the deficiency of Yang Qi,
which causes problems in the Zang-Fu and the body loses warmth.
Burning pain
The pain is accompanied with a burning
sensation and one prefers a cold application. It indicates the heat
syndrome that frequently happens at the pharynx and throat, mouth,
tongue, hypochondrium, abdomen, and joints. It is due to the fire
heat disturbing the meridians and collaterals. Excessive fire due to
deficient Yin burns the tissues.
Colic pain
The pain is like a sharp knife twisting inside the body. It mainly
lies in excessive evil blocking the Qi movement or the cold evil
freezing the Qi movement.
Dull pain
The pain is mild with a lingering feeling. It is often seen in the
head, abdomen, hypochondrium, and lumbar area. It indicates a
deficient syndrome. It is due to the depletion of essence and blood.
Or because the Zang-Fu and body suffers from malnutrition, it
results in yang deficiency and a cold feeling.
Heavy pain
The pain is associated with a heavy sensation. It is felt in the
head, four limbs, lower back and sometimes the whole body. It is due
to obstruction of Qi movement and the damp pathogen staying in the
tendons and muscles.
Aching pain
The pain is accompanied with aches and a feeling of discomfort. It
is often seen in the four limbs and the lower back. It can be from
the invasion of wind dampness and poor circulation of Qi and blood.
Sometimes it is also caused by malnutrition, causing deficiency of
Qi, blood, and kidney energy.
Hollow pain
The pain is accompanied with an empty sensation. It is seen in head,
gastric, and junior abdomen areas. The pain usually corresponds to
the relative organs. It indicates deficiency of Qi, blood, essence,
and marrow.
Spastic pain
The pain is due to the spasm at Zang-Fu or the body. It is seen in
the head and lower back, shoulder, neck, and abdomen areas. It is
due to the obstruction of Qi and blood at the meridians and
collaterals. It is more related to the liver organ because the liver
controls the tendon.
Acupuncturists should ask the location of pain. From the location of
the pain, the acupuncturist is then able to analyze and judge the
location of lesions at the Zang-Fu or in the meridians and
collaterals. The common locations of pain are as follows.
Lower back pain
Lower back pain is a group of pain
syndrome located at one side or at both side of the
lumbar region. It refers to the attack of the
exopathogenic cold-dampness, exopathogenci damp-heat,
trauma or kidney deficiency. Finally those pathogenic
factors block the transportation of Qi and blood, spasm
of the meridians and their collaterals lead to
disnourishment of the lumbar region and causes the lower
back pain.
